Rest in peace, Dickie. Thank you for 40 years of incredible music. You were a supremely talented bass player, singer, and songwriter, and above all a very cool guy.

I’m so sorry to hear this news. I know it’s true, but it’s still hard to believe, as Dickie was so full of life and seemed such a survivor. I would like to send my deepest sympathy to all of Dickie’s family and friends. Dickie was someone who had the courage to choose a life that wasn’t ordinary, to go out on a limb without a safety net. He also had the natural talent to create music was full of soul and startlingly original, to the extent that it influenced the very way that rock music that evolved over the decades. All of us on this board have had our lives enriched by Dickie’s music. There are many other Blue Cheer fans out there, and countless other music fans enjoying music that came about partly because of Dickie’s influence, even if those music fans themselves are unaware of that influence and of Dickie himself. I don’t really know about the afterlife, it’s a matter of faith and no-one really knows for sure. But if what it amounts to is simply what a person has left on earth for people to remember them by, then Dickie has left a fantastic legacy: family, friends, all that amazing music, a part in history and all the incredible stories that go along with his special life. More than most people can even dream of. Rest in peace Dickie, and thanks for giving me so much enjoyment in my life. You may be gone but part of you will be with us here for always.
