Yesterday morning me & my high school best friend Doug had started our epic adventure to see Blue Cheer in Toledo! Granted that the info was on more than one website over the last week it was very difficult to get any information from the venue about this show but in "good faith" in the Blue Cheer & Dickie Peterson myspace pages that up until we left Knoxville Tennesse ( a mere 500 miles away) that since there was no mention of any change of plans ( and the fact that I had sent Duck an e-mail to comfirm that I would be audio taping & video taping the gig that I didn't not get a reply to) that the show was still on and it would be the only chance that we would get to see Blue Cheer since they are not doing any Southern cities on this tour. Left Knoxville at 7am and had made great time all the way up and witnessed many a speeder getting tickets from troopers all the way! We made it into Toledo around 5pm after stopping off in Dayton to buy another re-issue of Vincebus Eruptum (as I had a few freinds that wanted me to get Dickie's & Paul's autograph along with my own "collection" of original Phillips albums!). So we went and found Vamp's (formerly a Masonic Temple on Philips Avenue!) and there was no mention of the gig going down. We tried to call the phone number to the club but got nothing. So we waited. And waited. And waited some more. A flyer from the night before had the doors at 8pm. 8pm and notbody came. Shortly afterwards a couple pulled into the parking lot....apparently me & Doug wasn't the only people who thought that this was just a poorly promoted gig! They had less of a trip than I did (they came from Findley, Ohio....just an hour down the road) the dude had actually seen a flyer in a record show in a Bowling Green record store. Not long afeter that a guy in a CREEM "Boy Howdy" t-shirt wanders up and we discuss what is apparently NOT happening. After about 30 minutes a car with a large black man pulls into the parking lot and wants to know what is going on and we tell him. He happens to be one of the security people for Vamp's so he calls his boss to find out what is going on. After a little bit of a wait he says that the phone number for Vamp's was linked to the fax number by mistake which wasn't the reason why nobody could get through when they called. And he also said that the band had called and cancelled the gig on Friday (dunno if this is true.....but it is what he said happened) and then he went to see if they may have been double booked somewhere else even though (up until the day of the show) the date was listed on the Blue Cheer myspace site) and there was no mention of a change in tour plans. So the show wasn't going to happen......after making plans to see a band I idolized for 30+ years wasn't going to happened. Needless to say it was a very long depressing ride back home to Knoxville. I realize that shit happens....all I would ask for is to make any information available as soon as possible to keep somebody else from being dissapointed by spending lots of $$$ and traveling great distances to see a "once in a lifetime" gig only to be left angry, bitter, depressed and stupid. *End of rant*

I am sure that the female (Gaby???), the one who posts as `Isis`, and who is the self-appointed chairperson, secretary and committee of the semi-unofficial Blue Cheer Fan Club, and who is responsible for the myspace site and everything that goes onto it, will be more than happy to give an explanation as to why you had to travel all that way just to be so bitterly disappointed. Cum along, Gaby, we are all ears............!! Or `Eyes is?`!!

I could really care less for an explaination.....all I want is for all future info to be factual and accurate. I consider myself to be somewhat computer litterate and a veteran of the road. The only other time I have made a long trip for a concert to go home dissapointted was when I hit Detroit right when the power grid went down in the Notheast US when Iggy & The Stooges was to make their triumphant return to Pine Knob for their 1st hometown gig in 30 years! There was no way that cancellation could be announced. I don't think I am expecting too much from the bluecheer myspace.....I was also wanting to see D.R.I. this summer but they had to cancel the entire US tour as the guitarist Spike Cassidy is battling cancer and the band's myspace website made sure the info was there even though Pollstar & other websites for some venues still had the tour going on. If I would of had 24 hours notice I could have called off the trip and I wouldn't be making this post.

Erm, why didn't you call Vamp's to see if Blue Cheer was playing there BEFORE you made the long treck? Just curious.......

Erm, why didn't you call Vamp's to see if Blue Cheer was playing there BEFORE you made the long treck? Just curious....... Re-read my post about the incoming phone line being connected to the fax phone number. I don't feel stupid for not getting through on their phone line.....I feel stupid for trusting information that was posted here that was not up to date and that was WRONG! If this is an official band approved myspace site I do expect it to accurate with any touring information that may be posted. But trust me on this.....I WON'T get burnt again!

Trust me, I read all of your posts very thoroughly. Regardless, you could have researched a little better. In this day and age, there is no excuse for not properly researching something as simple as a phone number to a club. When you couldn't get through to Vamp's, perhaps you could have called information to verify it was the correct number. After all, most, if not all night clubs have a message on their answering machine if someone doesn't answer. And most of 'em also have a message with all the upcoming shows. When you obviously didn't get either message, that should have been the first clue that you didn't have the correct number. So, don't blame the band and/or the website for not doing your homework.

. So, don't blame the band and/or the website for not doing your homework. wEll WtF! if you can't depend on the OFFICIAL Blue Cheer Web site for up date information, how the fuck can anyone expect to know what is going on ...

I`d just like to point out that the OFFICIAL Blue Cheer website is not currently up and running because of technical difficulties, and hasn`t been for some time. Several months, in fact. The myspace site is somebody else`s dream child and I do believe that it is not supported by all the members of the band, one of whom is Dickie. All you have to do on the myspace site is read the garbage on the blog. There are more people there who have never ever heard of Blue Cheer before running ads for bands that nobody has ever heard of before and IT IS BEING ALLOWED to continue. It is obviously not being monitored by the self-elected unofficial chairperson, secretary and committee person of the UNNOFICIAL Blue Cheer Fan Club who created it.

And, even if WAS posted on the band's official website (Which, as it has been mentioned before, is down, and been down for quite awhile), it would still be wise to call the venue the day of the show to be sure the band hasn't cancelled. Shit happens ya know, and sometimes band's have to cancel. No, the fact is, Govner didn't take any precautions whatsoever, took a chance on information derived from an UNOFFICIAL website (I mean, it's on Myspace fer God's sake!!), didn't think as to why no one ever answered his call at the venue (Again, first clue something wasn't right), and drove 500 miles without even the assurance of a gig happening shows his short-sighteness, and now he wants to rant and rave and blame the UNOFFICIAL website, and the band to some extent. Uh-uh, that dog don't hunt! If he's a "veteran of the road", then why didn't he do his homework??! Screw the myspace board, as this is the only reliable source of information at this point.

Hey give the guy a fuckin' break already. Regardless of who fucked up, the fact is that this dude did a round trip of 1000 miles to see the band which is pretty hardcore if you tell me. If I did the same thing and the show was cancelled, I'd wanna bitch a little too. AND...this band has been pretty reliable lately too. They always start the shows when they are supposed to and hardly ever miss a gig. And they put on 5000% percent every gig no matter what the circumstances. I don't think Govner's good faith that the show would happen was all that far-fetched.....

It was my mistake for thinking that a tour that isn't even listed on POLLSTAR is worth risking driving 10 miles to see! Excuse the fuck out of me for wanting to see them so bad DB but quit being the dick that you are and STFU! Or at least have the balls to register. Who the HELL are you to tell me I didn't do my homework good enough? Don't put the blame on me....there was at least 2 other people who lived in Findley Ohio & somebody who was from Toledo that also was there so don't act like it was an "isolated" incident! Maybe I should have done my homework better when it comes to people who claim to be fans of Blue Cheer who has myspace sites! And with every one of these sites having the show @ Vamp's listed on their website I made the mistake of actually thinking that the show was going on as scheduled! www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2006/05/blue_cheer_2006.htmlwww.marylandparty.com/performer.asp?id=9106www.takingonexplosives.com/main.htmwww.roadburn.com/pgconcert/tour_usa.htmlravensingstheblues.blogspot.com/2006/06/blue-cheer-on-tour.htmlBut I didn't do enough homework....what if I did manage to call and got an out of date concertline recording? I realize that Vamp's website wasn't updated recently but then again neither was the Blue Cheer myspace! And with somebody making the post about the additional Chicago July 7th show on Saturday July 1st why should I think that the Toledo show was in any danger of not happening? Give me a break! And if you doubt my road experience check out my tapelist of live bootleg master tapes! home.comcast.net/~jerry.brown11/Tape_list.html I know it is not been updated in 5 years but so what? Quit making this about what I did and make it about what somebody else didn't do!

Actually.......I just checked POLLSTAR but it only starts from the Denton,TX July 14th show......but there was no link on POLLSTAR before I left Tennessee. It is good that Blue Cheer is going to the only website I trust 100% to be accurate with any infomation that is supplied to them by either the band or their promoter. At least some good has came out of this mess!

Okay, I'll apologize if I came across a little too harsh. I admit it. Maybe I'm a little defensive of the band when it seemed to me that this was not not their fault (?). You MUST be pretty hardcore to have traveled 500 miles to see them and I obviously overlooked that. I guess I'm guilty of not wanting any bad "vibes" to follow the band on this tour. Two weeks into the tour and shit happening already is, to me, not a good sign, ya know what I mean? My bad..........
