i live 30 min. from toledo, and i can tell you exactly who's fault it is, without even knowing the details. it's brock's, the clown who runs taking on explosives promotions. this happens SO often with his shows i wont even bother. it's easier to drive another 45 minutes past toledo to detroit where this crap doesn't happen. i have no idea why broc has such a poor handle on his business, but the only shows of his that i'll even consider going to are when the are at a bar called howards, because then it's only a two block walk for me, and i don't feel as cheated. still, 75% of the time, the band i'm going to see won't be there and i walk home. two times i have had the opportunity to speak to the artists to get their imput as to why they were a no show. with one band, they said they were contacted by brock two days before the date and asked if they would play. the band said they were back in touch with brock within an hour to tell him they couldn't do it because their bass player was unavailable. posters were still printed up, distributed around town, and the name was still on the marquee that night. hell, the door guy even told me they were playing when i went in. another band that i spoke with had no idea why they would have been on the marquee, said they were never contacted. a larger national touring act that i went to see a howards had cancelled, i was told, because as they were loading up, the singer was informed his father had died, and they went straight home. home would have been new england, and there was no idication that the following shows had cancelled. i even found a review for a show two nights later. so if you want to take it out on someone, talk to brock @ myspace.com/takingonexplosives. i would be REALLY suprised if the fault were to lie elsewhere.
