Congratulations on your nominations guys! Are you ready to kick some ass in Austin?
HIGH TIMES is very proud to announce that rock and roll legends BLUE CHEER have been confirmed as the headliner at the 2008 Doobie Awards in Austin this March!
Named after a type of LSD, BLUE CHEER emerged from the famed San Francisco psychedelic scene of the late 60s, practically inventing heavy metal and stoner rock in America and quickly earning the title Loudest Band in the World. Now, 40 years later, Cheer are reunited and heavier than ever. Their new album "What Doesn't Kill You" is one of the heaviest blues albums ever recorded. We at HT are particularly fond of the first track, "Rollin Dem Bones"--a timeless new stoner anthem that we've nominated for Pot Song of the Year. The band is also nominated for a Lifetime Achievement Award.
HIGH TIMES is honored to welcome Blue Cheer to this year's Doobies Awards and look forward to hearing them blow our speakers.

NOW THIS IS SOMETHING TO BE PROUD OF. Doesn't this beat the shit out of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Popularity Contest! Here, the band got nominated by people who understand and appreciate what they do! Way to go Guys!!!

When I was in the Rock and Roll hall of fame I looked for any reference to Blue Cheer. The only thing I saw was them listed on a Hendrix poster. I totaly agree with FBL about it being a popularity contest. There are MANY deserving bands left out!

National Health were a progressive rock band from the UK around the period of the late seventies they apparently came from the "Carnaby" era,....Bill Bruford was with them very briefly and left to form UK afterwards..... some members of National Health after they disbanded went on to form Hatfield and the North,...b]"Of Clues and Cures"[/b] I think is their best Cd - I believe their stuff was re-issued on some Japanese label recently very good stuff if you like that type of music profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=54893179someone put a myspace page for the band i belive two cuts are diplayed on the fans myspace page

An interesting footnote perhaps, but GENTLE GIANT were originally SIMON DUPREE and THE BIG SOUND, who had a reasonable hit with a song called `Kites`, which was very much a sort of lullaby with Japanses overtones, whereas there earlier singles releases like `I See the Light` really rocked and did practically nothing. I still have their original vinyl album which is in delicious mono. On the other hand, I never cared for GENTLE GIANT. I must say that I wasn`t familiar with a band called NATIONAL HEALTH either, and whilst not a fan of ELP either, I had been to see THE NICE and saw EMERSON doing AMERICA etc live on a couple of occasions - truly amazing!!
