Have any of you guys been there before? My wife and I are driving to Virginia to see Cheer there on Sunday. Just wondering if it is a pretty decent place to see a show or not.
I am also headed to the Local 506 on Monday to see them in North Carolina as well. I have never been there either but my buddy that lives there says it is a pretty cool place to see a show.
I am also headed to Cleveland to see them play again at the Beachland Ballroom. I like that place a lot. I am hoping to be stone deaf before Christmas this year!

I try man! Let me know how the show in Philly goes! I may even try to get over to Lexington Kentucky to see them on the 20th as well.

will do, fellow 1%'er - as soon as I recover, that is ...
If it's half as good as the their show back in June then my face will be hurting again from smiling for two hours straight!

When I got down there- 2nd street in the old city section of Philadelphia it was buzzing with all the twenty something crowd. It was an unusually warm November night and the streets were mobbed with wall to wall people. Totally insane!
Really a happening night - which helped lend some excitement to the atmosphere surrounding the Blue Cheer gig.
(My ears are still ringing like a fire alarm) - that Khyber is like a crypt - long, narrow, dark, dirty and dank with a dangerously low ceiling.
A small stage with just enough room to fit everybody and the amps - it was so loud you could feel the floor rumbling under your feet and the walls shaking. No joke, this was earthquake material - of course some deaf person yelled out for them to turn it up!!
The place was packed to the rafters with stoner's - young and old. The second hand smoke alone was enough to send you into an oxygen tent!!
Tonight the grubby old dump was lit up by three cool geezers who can still bring it and rock your fucking balls off - as Ted would say.
Only these guys ain't living the life of no rock and roll poodle like Ted - no, we're talking street level hard rocking blues with a rough layer of pure sludge and psychedelic fuzz.
Unlike the show we saw last June - Paul had 'the snap' tonight!! His drums were miked just right and he really turned the clock back thirty years and tore it up. He did three savage solos respectively during: 'second time around' 'just a little bit' and 'doctor please' that were all killer and no filler!
The best part of it was I got to hang with Paul out front on the street after the show and tell him how much I've enjoyed his playing over the years and that I have a son who tells everyone who cares to listen that he is his favorite drummer.
The mileage lines on his leather face and stuped shoulders betrayed the sparkle in his blue/grey eyes as he listened to my praise.
'"Yeah, I was really feeling it towards the middle of the set" he said.
I asked him how they can still bring that much psychical energy to their music after all the hard knocks and years - Paul just shook his head and rolled his eyes -"I don't know - we just love it". "Do you guys make any money?" I asked. "nobody makes any money playing real music, the tour pays for itself, we walk away with next to nothing" He said. (that's show biz kiddies).
Not everyday you get to fist-five a legend and chat it up.
BTW- he had the same back-wards baseball hat, blue t-shirt and army issued shorts as last summer.
Humble, slightly built with a little bulge around the middle, friendly and seemingly pleased with the evenings musical offering he leaned against the wall and took in our conversation before darting back into the club to play an encore. ('the hunter' and 'roadhouse blues')
Dickie and Duck were in great form - much more wah-wah pedal madness tonight. The leads were a lot looser and not quite as sharp. I felt as if the tone was cleaner last time, but this was heavier - like the slow sludge chords on 'rock me, baby'.
Great booming bass lines that held it all together as Dickie leaned against his amp. His voice was raspy and rough, but held up pretty well despite all the yelling and screaming. No stories tonight, just a rapid fire blitz of hard, heavy rock.
Despite being old warhorses of the set : they laid down the best versions of 'Parchment Farm' & 'Summertime Blues' I've ever heard, (just hard chords and thunderous drums and bass that kicked your head back and forth like a car wreak), plus a thirty minute 'Doctor Please' that blew the crowd away to the extend that we all felt like we needed to go home and take a nap, after wards someone yelled out "I need a cigarette"!!

Hey, my pleasure, fellow 1%'ers, it's the least I can do for those who couldn't be there!
A couple of other observations / details: must of been some good weed kicking around last night because 'duck' couldn't stop smiling through-out the show. Also, thought he took the numerous guitar solos in 'Doctor Please' to some uncharted territory - a bit more adventurous than usual. (he shredded the motherfucker).
I can't over state how hard they attacked their somewhat tired set list - bringing new intensity and energy you wouldn't expect. If some one has a tape, cough it up, please!
Pretty decent mixing job by the board man - really got more texture to the drums than the typical 'locked in a trunk' buried thumping sound you end-up with in most cave like clubs.
Last item: the guys are selling some really cool small tour posters that are signed by every member of the band. Looks great - retro psychedelic style done to perfection.
If these guys come within a couple hundred miles of your town - get out and see them, it ain't gonna last forever folks!

While the sound was really clear & full last night, it was also so intense where you could feel the wind from the amps on your face. My wife said she felt like sitting on the floor the whole time the band played.....

Which show was better, Knitting Factory or the Khyber? What were the differences...I know the size of the Khyber which made the sound louder at there.......

I hate to burst your bubble, Babylon, but the only thing Duck was smoking that night was a few ciggies.

Thank goodness babylon came in with a review. I`ve been sitting here a few thousand miles away wondering if it has been happening or not. There were those people going to the Knitting Factory and then nothing, no review, just nothing. Great to here that they are really rocking it and to to hell with where they are doing it.

The Knitting Factory was a fun show...it was their first gig and it was New York and it was wild but they sounded good. A couple of youngin's were moshing and stage diving to Summertime Blues and some people got angry but Dickie and Duck actually thought it was quite amusing until one of the kids jumped on stage and kind of landed on Ducks guitar wire and stuff. After the tune Dickie just said watch out where you were jumping and all that jazz. People were digging it, the guys were into it and it was just a happening experience. For the encore, which I missed because I went upstairs and didn't know they were having an encore and they didn't think they were doing an encore, Paul did his Jim Morrison tribute. It was Roadhouse Blues. But for a first gig on this leg of the tour....they were pretty damn kickass....I was smiling and having a grand old time.

Hey, no bubble to burst here, Lourde - glad to hear it was a natural high for 'Duck' as it was for me. LOL!
More importantly, if you have the inside dope, (couldn't resist), I heard from their T-shirt guy that B.C. may be doing a tour with Cactus.
What say you, tough guy?
