I checked the website once a week or so for the last couple of months to see if anything is up and it will show how many users have been on the site for the last 24 hours. It usually says somewhere between 90-100 users. What are this many people looking at daily without posting?.....By the way...Happy New Year to all the BC freakies.....The silence on this site is deafening!!!!

If that were the case, then why hasn't anyone posted any review/comments about the latest Randy Holden album yet?! The thing has been on the market (ie Randy's website) for over 2 months now! You'd think someone would care being that on this one he sounds a lot closer to Leigh Stephens (that is the Leigh of today--Kronic).

There's no reviews on Randy's newest for a good reason. Seems the self-appointed "Guitar God" has gone soft by doing an acoustic..*AHEM* NYLON STRING guitar (whatever ) album. What's next Randy; a duet with Kenny G.?

OK well I'm gonna ring in on this topic and file it under my 2cents... I have been kind of critical of Leigh and now Randy's percieved "softening" and less aggresive solo playing styles since their tenures in Blue Cheer. I am gonna back off that stance a bit, since i can see that if they were still doing heavy rock they have both proved they can play the genre. So, these new directions while as a fan I'd like them to put out the same old same old, i can see why as artists they might see the value in doing something they haven't already done. I am gonna give them a pass here, but I probably won't be buying the new stuff...this kinda bugs me too since I like to support "our" guys and that means actually buying the cd's rather than stealing them off the internet. So while i may not be happy about the direction Randy and Leigh have chosen to go, I will accept they can do whatever they want and god bless them for still feeling the burn to grab the guitar and write and perform...

Yeah, they deserve and need your support. In the old days, the band recorded the songs and someone else mastered them, took care of promotion, booked the concerts ...and then handed them the bill times some after all advances were spent.
I think some of these later releases are influenced by whom Leigh or Randy is currently playing with. If they produced music with Paul or Dickie, the heavy edge would have remained. But even then, even Dickie was looking to other expressions such as Mother Ocean, from which nothing came forth in a cd recording. I know some mp3's exist. ...
Randy's latest was meant as an effort to tap into a different audience. Listening to it, I think even Blue Cheer fans could appreciate it. I think most fans or fans/musicians would have been interested in a Blue Cheer unplugged. There was a period in time where that was the rage and all bands were doing it. Including Alice in Chains. Alas for Blue Cheer this would be something that would never be.
So some observations on Visions of You by Randy Holden and Jaclyn Guthrie:
Visions of You” by Randy Holden and Jaclyn Guthrie opens with the title track that is driven by Lady Jaclyn’s haunting vocal with accompanying guitar and a bit of harmonica. This song sets the tone of the cd nicely. It has a “live” feel to the sound in an “unplugged” setting.
“Love Will Find a Way” follows with a strong duet between Randy and Jaclyn. The song showcases vocal harmonies between the singers and a solid guitar melody throughout.
“Bukkuchaa” opens with a Spanish sound that quickly develops into a flamenco sounding guitar. The song is very bright and lively and could easily be the highlight of the cd with a close second by “Love Will Find a Way”. Randy demonstrates his speed picking nicely. Rhythm and lead guitar played here.
“Spanish Nights Parts I & II” follows. This song is aptly titled as the whole disk has a Spanish flavor to it. Bass and drums plus electric guitar have been added to the mix. Part I is mainly instrumental, the road map leading to Part II. There Randy switches to nylon string again and Jaclyn provides and aria. This must be heard to describe in words is useless. The effect is quite sensual. The song winds up in typical Holden fashion and then fades out.
Long on the instrumental, Part I, this one’s for you, Space Surf Riders, who may have become somewhat disorientated in the previous beyond melodic tunes. This plants Randy’s foot firmly to the ground, possibly reassuring fans of old.

Love Will Find A Way? You mean to tell us that Holden actually did a Pablo Cruise cover!?

Gee, whatta shock; Riffraff, as usual, is here to defend Randy's latest album. Sorry, but I get the feeling that Randy could put out an album of him grunting while pinching a loaf and you'd praise it. I'm personally glad Blue Cheer never did the Unplugged crapola that was all the rage back in the 90's. (Besides, didn't they kinda do that with most of "Oh! Pleasant Hope"?). I mean, isn't part of the appeal of BC was that they were uncomprimisingly loud? In the 90's, much like the 80's when every freakin' "metal" band had to have a limp-wristed ballad, all these Metal and "hard" bands were all of a sudden pickin' up acoustic guitars and playin' as if their dick was limp. WTF?!

Thanks RiffRaff and FBL for the info on Holdens new CD. It's great to hear he's still pickin' away! ........Now, I also remember why people are hesitant to post messages on the BB....

No. People don't post here much because, sadly, there's not much to report on in the world of Blue Cheer. I mean, reviewing a freakin' acoustic Randy Holden cd?? That alone indicates things are slow! 3 years ago this would have been almost scoffed at. Pretty much any humor here is done tongue-in-cheek. Folks need to stop being so damned sensitive! Here we are, fans of one of the pioneers of ball-busting, no holds barred ROCK that was loved by The Hells Angels, and now some folks whither at the slightest bit of off-handed humor. Gimme a break! Do you think Dickie was so sensitive? I think Blue Cheer had a great sense of humor. Maybe we should do the same.

What the hell does the possibility of me having ever attended a Blue Cheer show have to do with anything? Does that make me more "qualified" to post on here if I did? What a pompous, elitist attitude!

Let's see.... Love Will Find a Way - Spirit Love Will Find a Way - Ravenryde ....someone needs to upgrade their record / cd collection....
Now, can polls be posted here?
I would be curious to know among the board members which record is the heaviest :
Vincebus Eruptum - Blue Cheer Population II - Randy Holden Death Walks Behind You - Atomic Rooster Aqualung - Jethro Tull Paranoid - Black Sabbath Deep Purple in Rock Sea Shanties - High Tide Starless and Bible Black - King Crimson
(Probably a classics list ...if other entries are worthy please post.)
Now if I listened to all of the above exclusively in rotation constantly, I think I would possibly become psychotic.
So an acoustic break would be in order. Note we are not talking folk music here.

Oooohhh...that's a hard choice to make Ralph. I'm familiar with most of the albums you listed, and they are all heavy is some way. Some musically, some in sheer attitude. Not familiar with the High Tide or the Atomic Rooster album, but without sounding like I'm kissing ass, I gotta go with Vincebus Eruptum. My reason is that, although the albums you listed were all heavy, most of them had moments of quiteness ("Planet Caravan", the begining of "Child In Time, etc.) Blue Cheer's debut offered only two moments of silence, and that was in two of the songs, just before mayhem reined again. For sheer noise, attitude and heaviness, Vincebus gets my vote. And oh yeah, just ignore some of the idiots on this board. Yes, we BC fans DO have a sense of humor, just not the one certain people on here share.
