riffraff I like your post, couldn't have said it better. It's also the same with the Rolling Stones, Brian Jones, Mick Taylor, or Ron Wood. They all had and have special qualities and each helped the band to become what they are. Right now Duck is the man, I personally hope it stays that way! I agree with both of you. I hope Duck stays where he is at for a long time. Speaking of Stones guitarists, what ever happened to Mick Taylor?

I disagree. I think this matter needs to be settled once & for all. Duck, Randy, and Leigh should all get together on the same stage and take turns jamming. Whoever plays the loudest is the best and the 2 losers should pack it in right there. After seeing this last tour, I know Duck will win hands down.

That would be interesting, and I'm sure Festooned Piglips would love to see Randy Holden go against Duck. But it will never happen though.

Who ever has the best technique, would be better than who can play the loudest. Still it would never happen. But it would be cool just to see Leigh and Randy would do one song each with the band.

He doesn't need to "go against" any guitar player...Anywhere. Whether or not you like him, he is still the one and only GUITAR GOD!!!!!

From the recent pictures I have seen Randy looks like he obtained all the weight that Leslie West lost. He would probably rather be in a pie eating contest than a guitar duel at this point in time.

Once at a Polish festival, I saw a lady win a Kielbasa-eating contest. She downed 182 whole kielbasas in 15 minutes!

Well,
Let’s see…….
1. Leigh in 1968 because he was part of BC’s original sound
2. Duck from 1999 to present and especially since 2005 tonow because he captures the closest in spirit to the band’s original formation along with his own style
3. Randy Holden he was a very good guitarist but didn’t from what I read and hear he did not fit in with the spirit of the band - Randy undoubtedly is arguably the best guitarist from the BC family tree however, BC is not about having the best guitarist they are a band in which all three members are collectively contributing to the band as a whole not as “individuals” – Randy will be much better pursuing his own solo material and not using the BC name to establish himself – many fans of the “guitar hero” genre would love Randy’s playing and would easily go and buy his Cds
4. Tony Ranier – very good guitarist but not quite the style for BC but did nice guitar work on, “the Beast is Back” Cd
5. Gary Yoder actually wrote some good songs in the later BC Cds I especially like, ”Good Times are so Hard to Find”
6. Then is all the rest in no particular order for me

But who of these players was the loudest? You can't vote for all 3. My uncle saw the Other Half warm up for the Amboy Dukes back in the sixties. He said that Nugent had so much more volume than Holden that it was too funny. Nugent himself couldn't stop laughing for half the show. And he was a lot less stoned than his competition.

It`s sad that Didi Saller`s ability as Blue Cheer guitarist between 1992-94 has been blocked to most BC fans due to legal wranglings with regards contractual obligations. He was a fine stand-in for Duck, when Duck decided that he couldn`t work with the BC management of that time, and was greatly responsible for the `Dining with the Sharks` album - the last album BC ever produced that contained all new material. I would imagine from Mr Maltese`s post that he is not familiar with Didi Saller, although he could not have chosen a more appropriate pseudonym. Blue Cheer hung out and rehearsed in the dungeon of the Bar Malteser in Regensburg.

Ted louder than Randy? I can’t picture that although Ted’s guitar has been guaranteed to blow the balls off of a charging rhino at 60 paces - according to Ted! I saw AC/DC open for Ted at Madison Square Garden and AC/DC were louder but Ted played very loud as well,…… According to Wayne Kramer they (MC-5) were louder than Ted and his Amboy Dukes ;D Leigh Stephens in 1968 no one was louder than he was at that time – he went through three marshall stacks Randy Holden went through two marshall stacks on the Outside Inside tour – I believe someone here on this board saw both lineups I’m sure he would know being he was there – I heard Randy goes through a pretty nice set up of amps these days Duck played nice n’ loud going through his stack and a half these past tours and I’m sure he’ll be adding to his stage gear on future tours

Or he has been to a few too many louts. Ron & Scott Asheton of the Stooges, sure put on a lot of weight as well.
