And you're surprised by this, Isis? This band NEVER got the respect they deserved, especially from a magazine like Rolling Stone who has its head stuck so far up its ass, it believes its own shit. (Didn't BC drop a few Marshall Stacks on their staff at the Miami Pop Fest?) Honestly, I always felt that the outlaw, underground status of Blue Cheer was part of the appeal. I remember a quote from some rag saying "what kind of people were fans of this band?" I give you, the 1%......We are all sincere and we are all hardcore and we'll fight anyone that says different

Why anyone gives a shit what Rolling Stain says about, well, about anything is utterly beyond me. They are not, I repeat, are not, the final say...in anything. Yes, they would like to think otherwise, but they I.E. Jann Wenner are living proof that yesterday's hippies are tomorrow's fascists, telling others the proper music to listen to and the right way to get high. F*ck 'em!

Actually it was in the Newport Pop Festival in Costa Mesa, California in August '68. They pushed their amps off the stage onto the Rolling Stone booth.
Ironically, I think Rolling Stone published a fairly favorable review of "Blue Cheer" (4th LP) by Lester Bangs of all people, and I don't think they particularly slammed "Oh! Pleasant Hope" either, although the things they praised had little to do with the "real" Blue Cheer.

Who reads (or buys) Rolling Stone anyways...?? They are an entertainment rag, like People magazine. Hardly a music watchpost. Hopefully the band gets covered in a Guitar or Guitar Player magazine. There was that one article with Dickie back a year and a half ago. Don't know if the link was ever posted here (maybe on the old board.....demise..) something should be happening from now till Aug 25th...the record has to be promoted...

Very few so-called "music mags" dig psychedelic music and RS is one of them!

They have always seem to be up Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead's ass when they do a 60's piece.
