Hey RiffRaff,
I know that over the years you got a lot of ribbing over your enthusiasm for the music of Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush (mostly because it was off the subject of this board--like this thread is- and sometimes appeared like spamming, at least to the Chris Cornell crowd). But I do have to hand it to you....I saw him live last night and by far this was one of the most amazing shows I ever saw! He's the one you should be calling Guitar God!

They were one of the headliners at this year's Pittsburgh Blue Festival a week or two ago. Sorry I missed it...

Yeah, I missed Frank last year due to a death. so I didn't hear his latest band, which includes a violinist/rythm guitarist. I heard his new bassist is phenominal. Frank has also picked awesome drummers. So when he plays not only is he great, but his band is too. The band is also very approachable after the concert, much the same way as Blue Cheer. You might have to walk over to the van or his motel. He only tours with his family (wife and three daughters) so he doesn't tour as much as he would like. He generally plays for three hours. He has a 2 cd -Real Live that you can get from his website that is highly recommended. I bought a couple of copies and sent one to Randy who was impressed. Randy gave it to Paul Whaley who I think gave it a listen. I think Duck knows of him. I am not sure they ever met., but Duck knows a lot of musicians, and it wouldn't surprise me if they did meet. I have a friend who is into the music of a lot of guitarists, the favorite of his was Jeff Beck. I told him you gotta see Frank. He did and was blown away. So now Frank is his favorite. (What did you think of Frank's "slide" guitar without using a slide? ). I don't think he sounds like any of his earlier stuff...I think that was produced by engineers who wanted to approach the Hendrix sound. So now we wait and see if Randy will tour. Generally to judge a guitar god , you have to hear them live. When I heard Duck live, it was so much better than his recorded material. And Duck is about the same age as Frank, so he is one of his contemporaries. Duck is limited by playing Blue Cheer material. I think if he played more of his material, he can approach the greatness of Frank. I mean Duck can play some really tastey blues licks..The only thing is Frank has a great rock voice and I haven't heard Duck sing. So Frank kinda tops the list, Jeff right behind, followed by Duck with Randy as a wild card. Decision pending hearing him live. But we do think that Randy could top them all. With all that said, like Dicke said about Hendrix, when he had a good night, he was walking on air, but on a bad night....) And then of course there is the great Syd Barrett. So I really rambled here... Callling to mind something Danny Gatton said about Jimmy Page staring at the starlit sky at night, "God, why can't I play like Jeff?"............
