I can't help but notice from reading a lot of the postings here that many of the Blue Cheer fans are also MC5/Stooges fans, more so than, say--fans of the Jefferson Airplane or Moby Grape. And for good reason! In a city of misfits like Frisco, Blue Cheer were the misfits of the misfits. From what I've read before, members of the band were originally from Boston, but I've long thought that Detroit would have been a better place for this trio to have moved west to, than San Francisco in the beginning. They would have mantain their image much better in Detroit-- the fans there would have fought for them the same way they fought for Iggy, Ted, and Alice. The "city by the bay" has a way of mellowing people out, and making them soft, and I think that's exactly what happened to Blue Cheer post-Randy Holden--with native Friscoids replacing original members, to the point where the 1970-71 stuff started sounding like the Grateful Dead (yawn!) No Doubt. Blue Cheer was tailor-made for Detroit, and would have thrived better there than in San Fran. They were more those kind of people, and I guess the million dollar question for me will always be why they weren't.

No one from BC was from Boston. I saw that in some rock almanac once and it's a total mistake. Holden is the only one from the East Coast. He came from Baltimore and then went out west with the Fendermen 4 (original name) as they felt the Californians would better appreciate their surf music than the east coasters. They should've gone to Detroit!

It would be interesting, if they were from Detroit. Maybe the last 3 albums would been a lot different.

Explain, please! Surely if the last three albums had been different, then the first three would have been as well! Another nonsense post from the King of Nonsense Posts, gypsyball himself!!

This thread makes absolutely no sense at all. Have you seen what became of most of those folks that originated from Detroit? Mmm, let's see: Alice Cooper: The guy plays Golf with the f*ckin' elite now! Not only that, but became so enthralled with fame that he dropped his original band like a hot potato. Ted Nugent: Damn Yankees...Need I say more? 80's corporate crap! And oh yeah, I love his whole "I-Hate-Drugs-Because-They-Ruin-Lives" stance. This coming from a guy who couldn't keep his d*ck in his pants long enough to realize that women were his addiction and can bring as much, if not more, destruction than drug use can. All this while he was married. He and Gene Simmons have alot in common in this area. Iggy Pop: Yeah, he's an "icon" but he's issued plenty of dross under his name ("Party"), and now his songs are featured on commercial cruise lines ads and now he's singing about his d*ck at age 60. Bob Seger: Wow, where do I even start? From"Ramblin' Man" to "Turn The Page"...*YAWN* 'Nuff said! MC5: Yup, their city certainly fought for those guys, huh No, I think the fact that Blue Cheer came from a city with a rep like SF was part of their appeal I.E. They were the underdogs who fought against the tide of hippy-dippy mediocrity. I dare say that, had they originated from Detroit, they may have ended up like the aforementioned names, meaning GOING MAINSTREAM. Okay, so the MC5 didn't go mainstream, but they were basically spit out and left to dry rot by, well, basically everybody. Again, this thread makes no sense, and is more of an excuse to start a thread than anything else. Next please!

Puh-Leeeze!!! Detroit vs. SF? BC = Bay Area Bikers and Owsley's Acid If cats here ain't into the Airplane , Grape, Joplin etc.. it is surely their brain and soul's loss. Mind melt music that makes you dance like crazy. I mean.. get real. Detroit was trumped up by rock critics like Dave Marsh and Lester Bangs who detested all things California. No SF Haight Ashbury no BC, let alone Ted Nugent or MC5. No scene has ever compared. Not London or even NYC and CBGBs. Freak Freely!
