That's cool, Isis! I've seen all their Phili gigs since their return and those shows have been amongst the best I've attended. BC always gets a great reception in that city.

4AM. Just got home (I'll be hating life in 4 hours when I gotta get to work). Blue Cheer is still the fucking best band on the planet. Here's the set: Babylon, Second Time Around, Maladjusted Child, I'm Gonna Get To You, Parchment Farm, Out of Focus, Rollin Them Bones, Just A Little Bit (Redux), Summertime Blues, Doctor Please (Paul was fucking amazing). Encore: The Hunter.
Oh, and FUCK YOU FRANKENPINT!!! Duck will NOT change his pants this tour!

As always, the show last night was amazing. A major highlight of it was that both Dickie & Duck blew the heads of their stacks...in the first song! Really tight performance nonetheless, Paul totally smoked, and we heard the best rendition of Summertime Blues.....ever!
Babylon...I must have asked 20 people with black baseball hats last night if they were you and every one looked at me like I was insane. Where were you hanging out?

As always, the show last night was amazing. A major highlight of it was that both Dickie & Duck blew the heads of their stacks...in the first song! Really tight performance nonetheless, Paul totally smoked, and we heard the best rendition of Summertime Blues.....ever! Babylon...I must have asked 20 people with black baseball hats last night if they were you and every one looked at me like I was insane. Where were you hanging out? I went with my black skull cap, FBL - sorry 'bout that - I scanned the small, but lively, crowd to see who might be a Feedback Lourde - were you the guy leaning against the wall with black shoulder length hair and jacket over an old Black Sabbath T-shirt nibbling on your girlfriend? I was front and center about two people back from the stage. Regardless- it was, as you mentioned, a flat out killer performance. Despite having some totally wasted guy, who must have been six feet five inches, nearly take me out when he fell coming down the steps into the room where Cheer played - it was a night to remember for all the right reasons. First time I can remember Dickie being AWOL as the band waited to start the show - of course being a Philly crowd - the approbate suggestions to where and what he may be doing where loudly suggested. Once he did finally make his way through the crowd onto the stage his mike kept cutting out. This was not to be the last of the technical glitches - but, it didn't matter, as nothing could stop the mighty force of Cheer. They just patch it up and blast forward. And it was a blast!! Even if the equipment betrayed them it didn't hold back the tidal wave of guitar, bass and drums that pounded us into blissful submission! I thought it was great that Dickie and Paul just kept on going at the end of 'Babylon' when Duck's stack head went down. It was kinda cool to just hear the bass and drums powering along in perfect harmony. I thought it was funny that when Dickie introduced the band and got to Paul, he commented about the rumors that it wasn't 'the real Paul Whaley' - then went on to explain that over nearly 41 years he had seen Paul in various stages of undress and this was in fact the genuine article. (I wonder if it was a response to some of the posts here) Speaking of Paul - what an amazing drum solo during 'Doctor' - slamming everything in sight all evening. It was inspired playing from a guy who looked to be nursing a bandaged ankle. The sound mix was excellent and I thought they miked the drums up perfectly- you got that kick in your chest every time he hit a note - and he hits 'em all!! 'Summertime Blues' and 'Parchment Farm' were fantastic - the best versions these ears (that are still ringing) ever heard. It was fun to see them send up a few new cuts off the latest CD - 'Maladjusted Child' and 'I'm gonna get to you' stood out for me. I thought they fit in with the classic stuff very well. It's impossible to come up with the proper adjectives to describe a Blue Cheer performance because they are a totally psychical, musical experience that has an energy, freedom and cohesive musicianship that is unparalleled. NOBODY DOES WHAT THESE GUYS DO, period. As always, I was able to hang out and chat with the cheer and thank them for continuing to drag themselves around in a crammed van and come open a can of whoop ass in our fair city... you can only hope yours is next! Amazing. BTW- I have some good photos FBL and ddye - how can I get them to you?

Babylon,
I was standing right at the front of the stage next to the guy that was filming the gig (between Isis & Mr. Maltese). I do have long (mostly) black hair but left my Sabbath shirt & woman at home this time (you got me mixed up with the dude from Spirit Caravan). I was with Dickie 5 minutes before he went on and can assure you that he was doing nothing unwholesome---just looking for some chewing gum (heheeh). Yeah, that 6'7" guy was funny. He told me his name & height but I forgot it now. It did suck when Duck's amp head blew but I agree that the second half of Babylon with just Dickie & Paul sounded cool. Kinda reminded me of ChetFest but with a much better drummer:-). If you wanna send me some pictures, please email them to superjudge555@yahoo.com . I apprecriate it.
