Hey why didn't Blue Cheer try to get on this tour?
PBS played 2 hrs of it a couple of nights ago. Alot of it came off as smarmy corporate blues/ rock. ( I mean Shery Crow? what does she know about the crossroads..??) But there were some notable performances by Los Lobos, Jeff Beck, Johnny Winter and John Mayer.
Clapton teamed with Steve Winwood to do some Blind Faith stuff. I will admit I was falling asleep during some of it, but that was due to workload. There was some longhaired blonde dude playing rythm for a number of acts. Was that Derek Trucks ? or Joe Bonamassa??
I tell you, if Blue Cheer and Duck did one of their blues numbers, it would have been a breath of fresh air. I mean they look like they have been to the Cross roads and back !!!
This time around it needed a couple of high powered acts to really stand out. Blue Cheer, Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath could have filled the bill.

Geezus, why o why does this bear repeating? As much as we like Blue Cheer, they do no, again, DO NOT, have the commercial draw all the other acts you mentioned do. Hell, you admitted as much in your third sentence (..."Alot of it came off as smarmy corporate blues/ rock.)" Not only that, but do we really want BC do be welcomed by the masses? No, because if they did, there wouldn`t be any 1%er`s. Riff, you`re a freakin` trip!

First off let me say Blue Cheer is one of my favorite bands,.....however do you really think they would get on a major/coporate tour like Crossroads? Lets be real, they've been playing small shows for a LONG time now. There's no way they could go from small clubs to sold out stadiums with out major publicity. Even when they were in their prime they never had huge commercial success like the artists on the Crossroads tour. I wish they did though, but some things aren't practical. Like Belcher said, I'm glad everyone and their mother doesn't know the Cheer like we do.

i have to agree with that - i wouldn't want to see them on a show like that, either, in fact i wouldn't because i wouldn't be watching it in the first place. and i understand the sentiment of lets keep it small i just think its a little paranoid to think they're ever going to get too big to remember the people who were there for them when no one else cared...you don't forget those people. the rolling stones still don't forget those people and its not like they still NEED them. i just don't dig the codependent vibe, man, surely we do want them to be successful? - and there was a time when they played the same houses as all those other acts. and steve winwood is not a corporate anything, so there!

Blue Cheer would only qualify to be on that tour if they had Randy holden on guitar. By having the guitar god back in the band (which by the way, he started via his influence) would put them up with the bigger stars like Clapton and Jeff Beck and take them out of the clubs. Until then, well........

Rowenafaerie,
It's not so much the 1% being paranoid the band would forget them but more a worry of seeing the scene go to shit if it starts attracting a large younger crowd who doesn't really get the essence in the first place. I've posted descriptions of damage I witnessed at Grateful Dead & Black Sabbath when both those bands started pulling in a younger crowd they really didn't need and I won't go into it again. But one thing I will say, the band won't do anything that would be cheesy (like an Ozzfest) and no matter how much overproduction/hairspray/ spandex a record label (like Megaforce) can put on the band, they will never be/sound like anything but Blue Cheer (even if they gave Randy Holden a sympathy-jam).

fair enough but scenes do change and it would be nice if there werew enough success to keep it all going. no? and it's a given that the corporations are not a threat. this lot have been round long enough to know their way around all that...

Nothing would make me happier than to see Blue Cheer enjoy some long overdue and, yes essential, commercial success. They did , of , couse , share the bill with all these guys, when they were touring behind the first two albums. They have bills to pay and desrve a comfortable lifestyle in return for the dedication they have given these past four decades. Don't sell them short, they know the value of the Freinds of The Band.
