The Blue Cheer video feature is now online, at: www.hrmusic.tvThree songs are featured, and in January I hope to post pretty much the entire show to coincide with BC's winter tour. I'm pretty happy with the way it came out, we did a lot of work on the lighting and the audio came out very well. It's definitely a broadband show, if you have dialup you're pretty much out of luck, but I'll post the footage on YouTube early next week, if not sooner. We added links to the new album on Amazon, Rainman Records, the BC website and the BC MySpace page, and mention the site again in the last intro. I hope you guys like the videos... Doug

This may seem a bit off the wall but I don't know how else to contact the band. hopefully someone will relay this information.
I am a health care practitioner for many years now. I notice Dickie and Paul seem to sweat a good deal ... given how hard they work it's totally understandable ... but also given the rigors of the road and their age, I suspect that they are very, very VERY drained after the gigs ... this in large part is undoubtedly due to the loss of excess fluids creating a depletion of electrolytes ... key factor in feeling of fatigue in those who work out, or work as these guys do. An easy remedy and not expensive is Gatorade and preferably Pedialyte in regular and large amounts. Though it will surely create a hoot from the lesser minds on the board, might I also suggest that a full nutrional drink such as Ensure will also be a great benefit, as well as a good multi-vitamin and a B complex ... especially due to Dickie's smoking.
I can not stress the importance of electrolytes enough ... and the need for proper hydration and nutrition while maintaining an extremely physically stressful routine.
Live smart, live loud ...

With all due respect, I think Dickie & Company have a Keith Richards type of immortality. Gatorade? Ensure? Are you fucking kidding? If this was a joke, not a good one. If you are serious....please.

Way back in 1965 on Fillmore street in San Francisco as Blue cheer was being formed and various others entered the Blue Cheer family at one point I counted 22 people that were directly involved in Blue Cheer and it seemed most of them lived with us on Fillmore street or at least visited on a regular basis. for survival sake and for budget and to stay alive great care was made to plan the food for all of these people . I remember Sally Jo who was Jerre Peterson's girlfriend and later Dickie's lived with us, also Weaver who was one of Ken Keseys Merry Pranksters and Leslie, Leigh's girlfriend were all vegetarians and were the cooks along with Peter Wagner who loved to cook. Easiest way to keep a band together is to feed them well-----so memories of a big pot steaming away on the six burner stove of brown rice was not uncommon together with many different kinds of vegetables and if money allowed some meat of some kind. This form of diet was also practical as we never knew who would be there t any minute . Also many visitors would show up at meal time and it was nice to be able to feed them . Many times the Hells Angeles would show up about six of them and we could then offer them something to eat. At the time alcohol was not cool or hip and so very little alcohol was around . Don't get me wrong as ,far from saints, we did more than our share of other mind expanders and enjoyed all of it very much but as far as food intake we really ate pretty healthy so as to allow us the strength to play music and live together in a somewhat insane way and also enjoy the chemicals and characters of the time.

Hey Man, you have a serious attitude problem! Brown Rice is very healthy for you and better than drugs!
Brown rice and white rice have similar amounts of calories, carbohydrates, fat and protein. The difference between the two lies in processing and nutritional content. If the outermost layer of a grain of rice (the husk) is removed, the result is brown rice. If the bran layer underneath is removed, the result is white rice. Several vitamins and dietary minerals are lost in this removal and the subsequent polishing process. A part of these missing nutrients, such as B1, B3, and iron are sometimes added back into the white rice making it "enriched", as food suppliers in the US are required to do by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
So, I wouldn't recommend that Dickie & Paul drink gatorade before a gig. Brown Rice is the way. If I had been the drummer this time around, I'd be sure we all got our Brown Rice everyday. And I wouldn't kick over anyone's instrument if forced to eat it.

thank you for the breakdown on brown rice which i am sure NO ONE has come across before. unfortunately back in the day there were a lot of people who thought brown rice would confer immortality or at least immunity ON ITS OWN and suffered the consequences. still brown rice is better for you than gatorade or ensure both of whose primary ingredients are sugar in multiple forms. there are as many ways to stay healthy as there are people on earth and most people who reach the age of 60 have some clue what works for them!

But then again when we went to McDonald's with Dickie fast food became SLOW food because he would order a PLAIN cheeseburger. Totally Through them off because they would need to make the PLAIN cheeseburger from Scratch and we would wait and wait and wait

But at least his food was fresh! The flies didn't have a chance to get to it.

Eric - Great anecdote! I always had the same problem with McDonald's, so I opted for Wendy's and Burger King because could prepare plain burgers in no time. When they were in town back in April, Chris and I made a run to Burger King for Dickie because he didn't want the Vietnamese stir fry that the promoter provided. I don't recall Chris ordering them plain, so maybe Dickie's tastes have matured somewhat.
