Caught BLUE CHEER at SXSW. My 3rd time seeing them, and probably the best performance. Absolutely amazing. You could FEEL the air rumbling around you.
Anyways, at the merch tent, I noticed a new CD (they said they just got them in that same day)
It's a ROLLIN DEM BONES promo EP
The tracks are: ROLLIN DEM BONES BORN UNDER A BAD SIGN ALLIGATOR BOOTS (prev unreleased) ROLLIN DEM BONES (live) SUMMERTIME BLUES (live)
It's a cool little CD. ROLLIN is the same as the album version.
BORN says nothing about it being different (in fact, it says "from WHAT DOESN'T KILL YOU"), however, it is different. It's either an entirely different version from the same session, or the same version with a different drum take and different mix.
I don't think it's Paul playing the drums on this version...Maybe the other drummer from the WHAT DOESN'T sessions. It's a very slow, open high hat for the verses, and tom tom hits with no ride cymbal for the choruses. Also, Dickie either is mixed so low in the chorus you can't hear him, or he's not there at all. Overall a very different feel to this song than what's on the record.
ALLIGATOR BOOTS is an outtake from the WHAT DOESNT sessions. It's a solid, if unspectacular rocker. Sorta in the more hard rock vein of BEAST IS BACK.
The two live tracks sound like audience recordings. Generally they sound worse than the live BOOTLEG cd, though about on par with something you'd download from DIMEADOZEN or something.
Anyways, a nice little compliment to the album. I recommend you guys pick it up on eBay.
