Recently in the mail I had a Cd sent to me by Rick Skol , Canada. Three songs are on the CD: Second Time Around Doctor Please Summertime Blues
I just listened to it and I believe we do Have The Tape, Finally. This would be the tape Blue Cheer recorded in early 1967 or late 66 At Roy Chin's Studio in San Francisco. Obviously studio recorded and obviously copied from a radio broadcast back then .
I would bet this is the Tape I have been looking for for many years----- Rick copied it directly onto a cd without changing anything.
So I need someone"s help to positively identify this tape as definite The first tape made that launched Blue Cheer . I think it is ----95 % sure. Who should that person be ----really I don"t know -----but if you all can decide who that might be I would gladly send them a CD copy and see if they agree with me-----naturally all copy write remains with Blue Cheer.
Would need name address for sending CD Please email me at ericalbronda@finestplanet.com
Thanks for your Help Eric Albronda

It`s interesting that you should mention Rick Skol, Eric. I wrote to Rick a few years back and got a reply after I got his e-mail address from Frank O. I have the album Gadsby and Skol which includes an excellent version of `Just a Little Bit`. Gadsby and Skol were a Canadian power trio from the late 60s, which doubtless you know already, and as far as I know they only made this one album. People must ask how two people named can be a power trio. Who`s the other guy who`s name isn`t included? There`s actually three names there. The bass player was Swedish and his name was And Tjernstrom. The album is VERY Blue Cheer influenced.

Most are in agreement that it is indeed "the tape"-----so I am going ahead now and declaring it is such tape--- "I do declare that Rick Skol has found The. original master demo tape that was done in Roy Chins Recording Studios in San Francisco, 1967. This tape was played in its entirety over and over again for probably one year---It was responsible for giving Blue Cheer about 50,000 in advance sales of their first album and thus made their first contract with Phillips records a reality and fairly easy to secure . Also this tape provided them gigs that would not have been there like the Shrine Auditorium gigs with Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd , Jeff Beck ( with Rodney). The tape was paid for by Nancy Winarick, Guts Wife and father to, Aura, their daughter . Blue cheer wishes to tank Rick Skol for finding this tape. Truly a landmark piece of musical history as it represents a changeover from rock and roll to Heavy Metal. You can hear it in the tape.

I don't think the could have ever imagined that Dickie, and Paul would still be doing this 41 years later.

It is exactly the same cut! The Captain Trips idiots have it listed as part of the Steve Allen gig.

It is exactly the same cut! The Captain Trips idiots have it listed as part of the Steve Allen gig. Captain Trip cut the ending of Doctor Please for some reason. The Summer Time Blues on the demo is the same version as the 2nd Summertime Blues on Live And Unrleased Vol. 2.

I first got a tape of Summertime Blues and Doctor Please in a trade around 1977, and the opening and closing notes of both were cut off for some reason (intentional?). It sounds like this is the version that Captain Trips got hold of for their bootleg, maybe through me (I was doing a lot of trading back then) maybe not.
