Its a long-running debate, but I thought I would bring it up just to discuss how absurd it is. The argument has always seemed to me to be more about style than substance. Okay, so punk and metallers wear their hair different and sport different clothes from each other. So one style is more proficient on their instruments than another (and the lines on that can even blur from band-to-band.) Aren't both punks and metallers both playing loud rebellious music? The point is, there much more similarites than there are differences (One in which is Eddie Cochran--as you may have notcied, both punk and metal bands have covered his songs!) So why should they hate each other?

every so many years styles change and the young need to trash the old guys to push them aside. granted. but the message was different too. punk veered away from personal relationships and such to address the society in a wart-exposing orgasm that lasted some time... needs to be done once in awhile, for sure...

We could bring Blue Cheer into the discussion, because (I'm sure!) that Randy Holden fans will make the assertion that Randy was a "metal" guitar player, whereas Leigh Stephens was just a 'punk' because he was a little more 'rough around the edges', shall we say..

well i would say randy was probably everything punk HATED about "hippie music" - just a little self indulgent - but i wouldn't use "just" a punk for leigh or any number of other guys who gave the finger to what was expected and went a bit crazy...some great guitarists in the punk genre too...

well i'm sure you've been down the road before, doesn't mean everyone has...by their own reckoning BC were considered punks by a lot of the SF crowd in the day. just as the beatles and stones were in their day. makes no never mind...

Who gives a rat's ass anyway! Why do you people always feel the need to classify a great band or compare it to other genres of music or attempt to point out who/what was influenced by them? Can't you just take a good thing for what it is! Or do you get a false sense of intellectuality from all this?

who pulled your chain? you have a problem with people having a conversation, butt out! very simple. no one is trying to classify or pigeonhole BC, and no one asked you. certainly no one is putting them down.

This is an open forum and I am entitled to add my opinions. If this gets your panties in a bunch, why don't you butt out! You don't own this board!

Who crapped on your parade? I just wanted to know why you care about that topic. Does everyone involved in the conversation have to be oh-so-delicate? Why do you only post here during your time of the month anyway?
...and the wheel spins round & round & round...

Amazing what a little "lighter fluid' will do to get a fire going! I agree you with you to an extent, Frankenpint. My whole point here anyway was to point that, to me, there is no difference between punk and metal. It's all "loud, rebellious music", and I like it all!
