Based on recommendations from FBL, I finally found this cd through amazon. For those who already have this cd, I wonder what you thought about it. Looking at the bands on the cd, I gotta say I am not familiar with any of them. I hope this makes the cd more interesting, since a note by note rendering of the songs is not what I am looking to hear. A modern (new) interpretation could be interesting to these old ears. Again as I await a small package of value ...please post your reviews and comments in the spirit of the New Year.

A trippy adaptation of "Magnolia Caboose Babyfinger" by Hogwash. "Ride With Me" by Natas. "Sandwich" by Standarte A spacey version of "Pilot" by Norssken. "Feathers From Your Tree" and "Doctor Please" by Pentagram.

I really enjoyed listening to Blue Explosion a tribute to Blue Cheer, whose tunes are well represented here with the exception of their fourth album. All the bands contributing did a great job, in sincere tribute. They included Pentagram, Internal Void, Hogwash, Thumlock, Natas, Fireball Ministry, Norrsken, Garybaldi, Rise and Shine, Wicked Minds, Standarte, Space Probe Taurus, Drag Pack, Vortice Cremisi and UFOmamut. Following the tradition of the early Blue Cheer releases, a great job is done on the artwork and 12 page booklet contained within. A rare photo of Blue Cheer with Leigh Stephens is included. Pentagram opens with Doctor Please and they stay true to the original with better recorded drums. Liebling’s vocals are closest to Dickie’s and Joey Hasselvander plays all instruments. Internal Void does an equally great job on Parchment Farm. Then a break to a very different but still heavy version of Magnolia Caboose Babyfinger by Hogwash. I think they used the same notes but played them in a different pattern than the original. Very cool. Thumlock added to the instrumental on Out of Focus. Natas doing the same with Ride with Me. Fortunes a B-side song of Blue Cheer’s was reworked by Fireball Ministry. Norrsken’s version of Pilot included a double tracked wah wah . In the middle of the instrumental the rest of the band drops out while the guitarist eventually loses his way…then shaken from his reverie he returns to the song at hand joined by the rest of the band. Hah hah, still like their version a lot. Garybaldi gives Fruit and Iceburgs a jazzed up instrumental treatment omitting vocals. Fossati’s intro guitar treatment that calls to mind Black Sabbath’s Planet Caravan. The middle section goes heavy…very nice. Rise and Shine with their Geddy Lee Type vocalist tackles Sun Cycle. Not a deal breaker, but an enhanced bass spikes this song up. Wicked Minds kinda over due it with the flanger on Just a Little Bit. Standarte puts some funk on this disk with their Hammond organ driven Sandwich sans vocals. Second Time Around is a little tamer this time around by Space Probe Taurus. Drag Pack pushes the envelope on Come and Get It.. Vortice Cremisi does I’m the Light some justice of which the inclusion of this song on this disk is a bit of a surprise. UFOmammut does a spooky version of Peace of Mind using echo on the vocals and heavy reverb on the guitar. They forego the dual guitar ending instrumental and opt to emphasis the heavy bass line. Pentagram closes with Feathers From Your Tree. All in all this cd is a great tribute to a great band, Blue Cheer. All of the bands that contributed did a great job. You can tell they all thought a lot about the band they loved and admired and gave it their all.
