Yeah, I got a radio station interested in interviewing the band, so I will pass that information on to Duck or Dickie tomorrow night.
Looks like things are ready to roll. I will be wearing a Blue Cheer t-shirt from their last gig hear in Chicago.
If we requested Young Lion's in Paradise, do you think Dickie will play it?
If you see me stop by TWFS..

Ok.... Interesting night. Opening band, was a mixture of krimson, psychedelia, and grunge crap! From the looks of them they all must be from wicker park! 2nd band, um 70's ALice cooper meets GnR, I can see why they are opening for Buckcherry. They were ok. Looking at the crowd, I see lotsa seniors who were probably there when the Cheer orignally started out. One character a punked out Punk was doing his own little Mosh pit! SInce Cheer has been listed by various punk bands I also sense that maybe there might be some INDUSTRIAL bands influenced too. Since this punk had PIGFACE on his jacket back. (A Ministry offshoot!) Before the show I see Paul Whaley, and he seems to be out of it, walking very slow, like it hurts. It makes me wonder how these guys survive? Besides this, do they have day jobs? I was kind of bummed looking at Paul. Duck did a good job, I prefer Tony Rainer, but Duck seems to have a handle on the Psychedlic aspects of the music and he emulates a good Hendrix. Dickie looked great, grey hair and and all and he was in fine form! The stories about them being loud. They are all true. I was glad I had earplugs on! Yes, the setlist was mostly the first 2 lps. 80 mins. Highlights were Parchmen Farm, Doctor Please, Out of Focus and yeah even Roadhouse Blooze! In which Dickie tellls us of a guy dancing to them on the floor fo the Whiskey Ago-go with his Jack Daniels bottle in hand! Jim Morrison dug the Cheer! Dickie tells the crowd they will be back next spring, with a new lp! here's to more Cheer in 2007 and beyond!

Man, the band was on fire! Dickie's voice was better (than when I saw them at Intonation fest and at The Note.) Duck's solos were hitting right on cue. Did an interesting trick on one of the songs... Their sound was pretty good. The previous bands had a muddied sound, but cheer's was fine....
Met a guy who saw them in Memphis (?) last saturday, and talked to an ex-roadie, who was recruited when Leigh quit the band and took all the roadies with him....
Helped Paul pack his drums. He had ran out of painkillers for a knee injury....couldn't tell by his playing though..
Talked to Dickie about stuff and the new cd. Asked him to tell us something about one of his songs...before we hear it.
A couple of people were videotaping, so hopefully the band can put some of this together and get it out!
Now I have to go chew out a couple of my friends for wimping out and not getting out to see Blue Cheer!
I dragged my sorry tired ass over there...... and now I feel much better!
Thank you Dickie, Duck and Paul for another great set of music...... 'till next year.....and don't be late!

He had ran out of painkillers for a knee injury....couldn't tell by his playing though.. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ that would explain a lot. Talked to Dickie about stuff and the new cd. Asked him to tell us something about one of his songs...before we hear it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Did he give you any details? What label it is coming out on? release date? A couple of people were videotaping, so hopefully the band can put some of this together and get it out! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I was pissed about that, if I had known people were gonna do this, I would have brought my video camera too! Fuck! I will be wearing a Blue Cheer t-shirt from their last gig hear in Chicago. If you see me stop by TWFS.. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There were a lot of interesting characters walking around, who were you? I saw this one kid with a PENTAGRAM jacket on! I hope you weren't the FAT loudmouth goateed biker guy! Me? I was the pissed off looking guy sitting by the mixing desk wearing a MOTORHEAD, ENGLAND t-shirt.

Ahhh..no wonder our paths didn't cross. I checked out the room before the band came out and decided the side with the mixing board was not good from a recording stand point. So I started on the other side and worked toward the center. Once the band came out, a number of fans rushed toward the stage and cut in front of me. So I was the guy holding the tiny videocam in the air above the heads of the fans in the first row. I noticed a lady taping on your side. So you must have been near her.
I talked to her and compared notes. My old videocam crapped out at the Intonation Fest and at The Note. It would only record for about a minute or so and then shut down. Then I would have to remove the battery and reset it to begin again. Needless to say it was frustrating taping this way. And the results are not good. Lighting was low and I was using an 8 mm. So not having the time to get it repaired, I invested in a new videocam for Champ's. And this was the inaugural recording. Not sure why but even the new videocam crapped out about 10 times. So I got everything but about 10 minutes. This other lady said that hers crapped out a couple of times too. So I said well I would send a copy to Duck and she should too, to see if between the two recordings Duck could have a complete show.
The recording turned out much better. But I still have a problem with the bass as the simple mikes on the videocam can't handle it and a windy distorted sound is in the recording. I suppose with an equalizer some of this could be eliminated. Still my results are of an amatuer. The band should really get a professional to record them. The results would be awesome.
In reviewing the tape, my immediate reactions were confirmed. They really played well that night. Duck was playing unbelievable solos (especially on Dr. Please). Dickie's voice was real good and Paul was really hitting the skins.
Still a great part of the show is that all of them are entirely approachable and are pretty straight forward in answering any questions or telling stories back in the day. Did you stop by and talk to Dick or Duck. Paul was needing to get back to the hotel so he didn't stay as long as the others.
Not wanting to spill the beans as certain things should be announced by the band when they see fit , I think I can say a couple of things about the new cd. Though I haven't heard it.
The band is adding a couple of songs to the ones already recorded. They are all excited about this cd. When they tour next year to promote the album, with a bit of luck, it will not be the same kind of tour they did in 2006. At present they don't have a record company.
To add my two cents, the cd originally had Joey Hasselvander on drums. And he played in some of the initial gigs Blue Cheer did in the States. I think feedback lourde attended some of these. So he can add his two cents. When Paul came on board after the initial gigs, the band held off releasing the cd as they wanted to have Paul included in it some way. So it seems that they are accomplishing this by adding some new songs that Paul will be the drummer on.
So I think 2006 was pretty great for the diehard fans to see their beloved band. I am hoping and there looks to be opportunities that will make 2007 even better for the band.
Hey, I am no expert and I have no inside information. I posed some questions to Dickie and Duck and Paul and here is some of the feed back. I will leave it to them to announce the good stuff when it happens. They need our support , they have the talent and the drive, we need to be a bit patient for a little while and see what develops after the first of the year.

Kool, man you could not pay me to be there in front videoing the show with all those people up there. And let me guess you and the lady had DIGITAL cameras? Right? I still use my old Video TAPE camera. it's lasted me for over 11 years taping gigs.
By any chance did you ask them if they ever plan to play ANY Material from the other lps except for the first 2?

To me the set that they've done this past tour is all I really need the first two albums are their best ones - I just hope that they play more songs from "Outside Inside" on top of the ones that they are already doing and maybe an extra or two from BC 4 or Human being and the highlight songs from the new Cd

I think it would be really cool if the band held off on releasing the new album for a while and put out a live album from this tour instead being that they had a lot of success on it. Maybe they can even do a tour to support that live album. Caught the gig in Cleveland. They did 3 tunes off OutsideInside. It rocked!!! They opened with Babylon and there was happiness everywhere.

When I talked with Dickie at the Note, he had mentioned that he would like to do a couple of songs off of their other albums. Particulary one off of Blue Cheer #4.
But these latest gigs were the second leg of the originally planned tour that would feature the first 2 albums. So I expect the band stuck with the originally planned material, as once the tour started there would be no time to rehearse any other songs. I think for the 90 minutes they played, everyone got their Blue Cheer's worth! Pretty intense with bluesey interludes....not a dull moment. I actually hope they put together a dvd of this tour.
Anyone see professional camera people at any of the shows?
Oh yeah , Twfs, the new digital stuff is nice, but it still is the old equipment that is more dependable.....
Set list was.....
Babylon Second Time Around Rock Me Baby Parchment Farm Out of Focus Voodoo Chile (intro to) Hootchie Cootchie Man The Hunter Just a Little Bit Summertime Blues Doctor Please Roadhouse Blues

At the DC, Phili (1st night), CBGBs, & SF gigs, they also played Red House as part of the encore.
