Seeing as how their 4th album seems to garner a lot of attention, as well as side 2 of "New! Improved!" (Festooned Piglips be damned), why not some love for side 1 of their 3rd L.P.? I think it was a good precursor to the 4th album, and it did feature some mighty fine singing from Dickie in addition to Paul Whaley doing what he does best. I think it unfortunately stands in the shadows of the Holden side, but it does have it's merits. So, where's the love?

Good topic, but unfortunately side 1 of "New! Improved!" won't get much love from me. It is just too loose, under-rehearsed, and undernourished, except for the Dylan song, the only track on side 1 that I like. The sound of the album is a mystery; despite one studio and producer being credited, each side has its own unique sonic effect, above and beyond the differences in musicians and musical styles. Phillips did not do BC any favors by releasing "New! Improved!" in its split-personality format and cheesy album cover.

Since you bring up the topic of the cover, Barbaricus, I was wondering if you or anyone can tell me exactly what that thing on the cover is supposed to be? Even Whaley couldn't tell me!

You mean there was a second side to this album? I figured, after the Holden side there had to be something on the flipside but the side 2 was so awesome and mindbending that I didn`t see the point of ever flipping the record over! Hmmmpphh....ya learn somethin` new every day.
