May not post much but am and have been a huge fan of this band since a high school romance gave me the first album cause she said it was weird.I wore that bad boy out.Saw them live at the first Miami Pop festival.Just didn't get the full amp until the next Fall when they played the Sarasota Armory a real band box for them boys.It was the week after the Cream played their last date in the states on the Goodbye tour in Miami that was epic and had though they were all that until two weeks later on a Sat.nite.Dickie was using these huge Kustom bottoms with 4 18" speakers in each cabinet 4 of em driven by 4 fender 100 watt tops.Whoever was the guitarist that night had 3 Marshall's and played a Gibson SG Special man that was one bitchin guitar.well I was about 10 " away from senior Peterson when he hit his Bass to tune it up well any of you from the 60's that saw them during that period know.I became one with the periodic table.Somewhere between a solid and liquid state. They played every song they knew took two hours a bunch of local hacks took the stage to give them a break lasted an hour seemed like an eternity. The boys came back on looking for god only knows what. They proceeded to kick ass for three hours.I was blown away on some bathtub acid they were calling white lightning or whatever. They jammed till three in the am a first for Little ole Sarasota but the man finally pulled the plug turned on the lights and said it was time.I will never forget that night ever never it was just so so.I can't put what I feel about that night into any words that would make any sense.Just that It was a space in time that was amazing. That I have found kindred spirts is the most to say the least.I will hope to catch them if they come close to Tampa or anywhere within reason. Peace .

wow moondoggie you saw them in their heyday,.....sounds like an interesting experience you had there,.......sounds to me like what you were describing that it was Leigh playing guitar although Holden used an SG too at that time but I bet it was Leigh.,.....did you by any chance take photos there? everyone was probably too stoned to be thinking about taking pics at that time

Cream's last show in Miami was in October, 1968, so it sounds like this show was with Holden. Must have been awesome - can't imagine them jamming for hours on end.

You were lucky to see them in their prime.

That was their heydey. I'd say now that musically they are in their prime. Of course I'm basing my opinion on stuff I've heard & shows I've seen. We need some bootlegs from the Holden/Yoder era.

Yea As an adendum. They rolled up on the Armory that night in a mettaflake Blue 67 GTO that had a GMC supercharger poking thru the hood trailering a U-Haul trailer and a U-Haul truck full of amps drums and assortted hippies hang on's and stoners.I don't know if it was Holden or who but he had long straight black hair. What was bad ass was during their two sets they played most of the songs were done at a different tempo slight but perceptable.I can here that guitar riff into into The Hunter sooooooooooooooooooo fine.I'd give a planets ransom to be there for that one shining moment Color me one greatful Blue Cheer fan that was blown to and thru an alternate universe.

Based on the description of that car and that Axe Grinder, I'd say it's safe to assume that it was Randy Holden playing at that gig.

I wish I could find some bootlegs from the Leigh Stephens era, let alone Randy's. It must of been unreal to see them playing like that!

Moondoggie... Leigh quit the band in Sept/Oct of 1968. So I think you witnessed Mach III with Randy Holden.
