If you helped a friend, how would you feel?
Of course, Randy was hoping to record with Paul, but he found his old friend Mike Stuart (Sons of Adam and Love) a drummer ready and willing to play. A stroke of luck you might say.
From what Randy says about his release of Pop 2 on his website, it is a matter of taking care of old business. Pop 2 was never released with the proper mix. I thought the Flashback had a pretty good mix. Never heard the original Hobbit release. So he wants to release it as close to the originally intended mix and then move on to new music.

Otherhalf, there was a concert taped in Holland of Blue Cheer with Randy Holden. I don't know if it was the BBC. A tape of it was left at Randy's doorstep. It was lost when his house burned down. Anywhere from Oct '68 to March of '69 is my guess.
Pictures were taken of a press conference in Stockholm around the same time.

Randy Holden had some pretty bitter things to say about his period with BC on his web-site. It seemed like the band was staring to fall apart, budget-wise, when he joined, and he said things like the band wasn't loud enough for him (I think it's all "sour grapes", myself). It's a shame, because Randy had probably one of the best guitar tones of the 60s, on just two of the songs he played with BC--"Fruit and Icebergs" and "Peace of Mind"--approaching the sounds that Jimmy Page was getting at the same time. Not only that but he had a real songwriting ability and a suprisingly good voice as a singer--somewhere between Glenn Danzig and Jim Morrison. No wonder Peterson turned over some of the lead vocals to him! Both of the aforementioned songs, in my opinion, were the most underrated songs of 1969. Unfortunately, the rest of the parent album with him on it, "New Improved", is crap!

Randy never tried to record or gig as “Blue Cheer” (it would be like Mick Taylor touring as the Rolling Stones) ?
Indeed, indeed ... randy recording as blue cheer would be like what you said ... so read it -n- weep and let the matter rest once and for all. the proof is at the bottom. www.cosmiclava.de/THE_LIZARDS.558.0.htmlSeptember 2004 Patrick: This project is an answer to the question that you probably hear all the time and one we asked ourselves: "Why isn't anyone doing records with the guys who invented the music we all love to hear?" If you listen to rock music on the radio, it's really just a product of the big labels trying to force a lot of generic re-hash down our throats. They spend unbelievable time and effort trying to recapture a sound and a vibe that can only be found in the real thing! But they won't spend one penny on a rock band whose members don't fit a certain image or demographic. I'm not saying there aren't good bands, but for the most part it's pretty bleak. So, we thought, "Why not get the guys who were around at the birth of heavy, classic rock and put them back in the saddle?" We're talking about the people who many younger musicians list as influences. If they are good enough to be heroes, they certainly deserve to be heard again! And I can say we are rarely disappointed. This kind of music, or any art for that matter, comes from an intangible place. You can sit around all day trying to copy it, but unless you lived during a certain period and experienced that era, it will come out sounding like a Japanese karaoke record. And I think that's why people see something in the Lizards. We are the real deal, not just imitations of something else. What about Vanilla Fudge, Cactus, Blue Cheer or Captain Beyond? Have you recorded new albums with this groups? Patrick: We have done new albums with all of the above except Captain Beyond. Randy: I've got Vinny Appice in Randy Holden's "Blue Cheer". They're working on a cd now (that's a scoop for you)The "Vagrants" are also finishing a cd.. The Fudge are 1/2 way through cd#2... you can go to the link and read the whole thing for yer self ... it's right there, been there, all ya gotta do is look i agree, randy and his plan is boring, just keep your eyes open and yer powder dry, there's more rats in them woodpiles than you and i ever dreamed of, horatio
