Lather wrote: "When I saw Blue Cheer back in 1968 or 1969 with Randy Holden, I was a bit disappointed. The only element of his playing that was Cheer-like was the volumn. He didn't have the psychedelic sound or play like a madman like Leigh. No crazy guitar solos, just simple blues scales that never left the box. Yeah, he sounded good on the record but one needs to see him live to get the full picture."
So there are fans who seen and heard Randy back in the day.
I am surprised by this post, because I had heard the members of the band (up to that time) were of the opinion that the band was the tightest yet and their concert would rival anyone besides Hendrix or Cream. Maybe Lather thought the result was more calculated or maybe too precise. Lather if you like to write more, a number of us would be interested. That was a long time ago, so if you don't , I can understand.
As Isis posted, recording equipment back then was not like it is to day with handheld video cameras. Fans were more likely to take flash pictures which inevitably would not turn out....

Which band member had that opinion, Riffraff? I know of only one who had actually voiced that and this is the same person who makes the claim that one of his previous bands could & would blow away any other band they played with except for the Rolling Stones and that, he attributed to "having superior equipment." I'd like to see this guy play live already as I'm beginning to feel that he is a legend mostly in his own mind.
Lather, could you please elaborate a little more about the live show of this lineup? Did they jam at all or were the songs just played like th record? What tunes were actually played in the set?
Riffraff, drop me a line. I'd like to discuss some business......

Thanks for turning us on to this link!!
Fkin' great - to hear the original Cheer at full throttle jaming away live, even with the bad mix they still blow me away.
These guys just crank it - what a find.

After hearing this, I would have to say that if Black Sabbath came out in 1968, Blue Cheer would have destroyed them ;D
Like capz here, I to would like to know where you can listen or download the rest of the Denver Show.

As much as I like BC, I like Sabbath just as much. Neither band could destroy the other. The 2 on the same bill would be the detonator of WW3. As moderator of this board, I demand a public apology!

Ok sorry about that. But I have to say studio recordings in the early 70's of Black Sabbath did not capture the power of Black Sabbath to well. Live recordings of Sabbath on the other hand is a differnt story, the seem to be heavier sounding than the studio recordings.
