Spoke to Duck yesterday while they were enroute from Chicago to Pittsburgh. He said the Chicago show was great and "loud as fuck", but they were pretty whipped after playing nine days in a row. Sunday was an off day for them, so hopefully tonight's show will benefit from it.

Thanks! I'm still having a hard time believing that I'm finally going to get to see them after 39 years.
It seems fitting that it was this week in 1968 that "Summertime Blues" peaked at #4 on the KQV-AM Top 40 in Pittsburgh.

Blue Cheer, can destroy any modern rock band out there today. Still in high school, eh? Uh......... Have heard what they have been playing on modern rock radio lately? Admittedly it a lot better than the pop shit that is out there, though not that much better. Lastly what ever happened to guitar solos with bands of today, they seem not to know how play solos or they are too lazy to try them, or both.

I had a conversation about the lack of guitar solos in today's music with a friend of mine who plays guitar in a band a couple of days ago. He said that younger people have asked why they play guitar solos at shows. Apparently the under 21 crowd doesn't like solos in songs. That to me is sad.

I think a lot of today's generation just don't seem to have a tolerance for guitar solos never mind the guitarists who jam and do extended solos,.....a lot of the youngsters are brought up on music that isn't the greatest quality these days so in their minds they may think what they're hearing is good but in reality us older folks who grew up when the music had more of the great guitar soloing and jams know that it's not all that great(the stuff today)....the generation of the mainstream today have accepted poor quality stuff as the norm therefore many cannot relate to the stuff we've grown up listening to,.....although there are youngsters who are aware do refer to bands like BC,Hendrix and others..hence the stoner rock bands that play today ...as good a some of them may be they still lack the attitude and intensity of their predicessors

and some more...... Voice of Reason, I agree with you...I as a Randy Holden fan who also is and was firstly a Blue Cheer fan has been gullible on postings by certain individuals. twfs...thanks for the corrections. I modified my original post to refer to Champ's, not Champion's. Also thanks for the times. My statement saying the gig was shorter than Champ's was based on number of songs. I will go back to the video to see which one they left out. .....yeah so they stretched out on Doctor Please. I was against the wall, way on Duck's side of the stage. There was maybe one or two guys closer to the stage. 6'-0", grey hair( not long), mustache, denim jacket. Albatross sucked at first, but after listening to them for 20 min, I changed my mind and thought they were hilarious. Their song " My head's on Fire" turned it around..I guess... Talking with Dickie, I handed him my copy of Highlights and Lowlives for him to autograph and mentioned that they should play more songs from that album like Girl from London...Hunter of Love...Down and Dirty. Dickie replied that no one knows that record is out. Otherwise they would. He mentioned that they plan to reissue that one in time. He also mentioned the harder to get "Dining with Sharks" and had some stories to say about Dieter Saller and also Tony Rainier. Dickie has plans for Mother Ocean, but right now Blue Cheer comes first. Mother Ocean will give him an outlet where he can do music that would not fit Blue Cheer, yet at the same time allow him to stretch out. Dickie lives north of San Francisco. He lives very near David Lindley and had good words to say about him. He also lives near Tony. Dickie had a story to tell about Girl from London, when I asked who was the female singer he harmonized so well with on that song. We also talked about his great solo record "Child of the Darkness". He mentioned on the title track there was double bass. One was bowed. Also mentioned the sax player was tremendous. I think it was the track "Who do you Love" . Gotta check. Just a lotta fun talking to Dickie, I hope I didn't take too much of his time . Really appreciate his time to chat. I approached Duck and said there is something I gotta ask you. I asked if he planned to ever do a dual lead like Clapton's Politician or Holden's Peace of Mind? At first he acted like he didn't understand, but I said not live but recorded. Then he said that there are a couple tracks on the new album where he does just that! ALLRiiiiiight ! I also heard him talking with another fan. I think the topic was Ritchie Blackmore....not sure. But Duck said he played with the rythm section of that (or unnamed ) band. And the drummer, who was his best friend was murdered. Anyone know who this was? I just don't remember the name. It reminded me that a lot of the friends and associates of the band have moved on and yet the band continues. Maybe this is part of what gives the band soul....depth. Makes me want to hear "Young Lion's in Paradise" and time for reflection. Anyway the band is very excited about their new cd . They think it is real good and they just want it done right. Also chatted with Paul before the set. I think if i remember corrrectly that Paul said he played drums on three of the new songs in thier entirety and was very happy with the results. So they kept Joey Hasselvanders drums in. (Which is cool since a lot of fans did not witness his efforts at the start of the American gigs.) Sorry for the long post....kinda interviewish. Hope you find some of this interesting...

Surely that was an idiotic thing to do, bringing RH`s name into it whilst talking to Duck McDonald. Haven`t you learned anything? It was bad enough the discussion about F&I at soundchecks, but now you have progressed to Peace of Mind. No doubt you will be enlightening us with your knowledge of every other song that RH ever recorded in future posts. Get a grip, RiffRaff. The man in question no longer epitomises anything remotely connected with Blue Cheer, and we all know where your heart really lies. Why refer to him as just Holden? It sounds slightly derogatory the way that you use the name as if he was just somebody who`s name just suddenly sprang to mind, when all along we know that you think that the sun shines out of the man`s asshole, and you couldn`t wait to try and impress Duck by bringing his name into the conversation.

When was the last time you saw a local band with a keyboard player? Doug
