saw `duck` last night upon my early arrival at the club....while crew was setting up, he sat in a corner, acoustic guitar in hand and played a perfect rendition of "honey butter lover"

Since everyone in the band dismissed the "Fruit & Icebergs" soundcheck story with a laugh, and since they aren't carrying an acoustic guitar with them (they couldn't fit one in the van if they wanted too), I think this story needs to be taken in proper spirit.

Maybe they're trying to mess with Festooned Piglips, to get him pissed off, at the so call Holden covers during the sound check.

The only things that's pissing me off about them doing Randy Holden covers during soundchecks is it seems that they're doing it to mock the very founder of Blue Cheer I simply do not see the humour in that!

Hey thanks, Flyer. So Gary Driscoll was the drummer for Blackmore's Rainbow. And he only played on the first album. That contained a killer version of Still I'm Sad.... So Duck and him were in a band called Bible Black? Anyone know of those days...could go back as far as 1982.....
Tony Rainier had a fear of flying. That kept him from doing any touring. That definitely handicapped him. I believe that was the reason he dropped out of the band.
Dickie mentioned Duck's guitar sound is thick while Tony's is thin. Both great guitar players but both totally different in their sound.
I see a pic of Highlights and Lowlives is on the myspace .com Blue Cheer page.

Anybody read the graffiti on the wall of the gent`s toilet at Schuba`s? There was one that read `I bet Festooned Piglips has more aliases than Eric Albronda.` Check it out the next time you`re in.

I'll try to be diplomatic here......As much as I like Randy's recorded contribution to Blue Cheer, I think it has very little to do with the essence of the band and why we like them. To me, the essence of Blue Cheer is contained in their first two albums, to a somewhat lesser extent their 3 studio albums from the mid 80's to the early 90's, and the 2 most recent live cd's. In other words, ball-busting Blues rock with wailing guitar, bomb-dropping drums and a bass guitar that is absolutely in your face, with no apologies. Blue Cheer did some great things on the last 4 albums in the late 60's, but that's not why we embrace them. BC doesn't really lend itself to the psychedelic sound. Sure, Leigh had overtones of that sound, but with Dickie and Paul behind him, that obliterated any hint of psychedelicism that they may have had. To me, Duck proudly continues this tradition and, is some instances, betters it. Randy was a stand-in at best. That's it. He did not name the band or form them, so he deserves no credit whatsoever for what he THINKS is his band. In a way, even Randy calmed the band down on side 2 of their third album. So, all this talk about Randy's contribution to the band is quite pointless. He will probably never play with Dickie and Paul again, and that's fine. I mean, do we really want a man who will dictate what Blue Cheer will do playing with them? I for one don't. I think Duck is the brain of the group, Dickie is the soul of the group, and Paul is the heart (beat) of the group. Unfortunately I had to miss the D.C. show, but that's life. I am more eagerly awaitng the new album. I am the weird kinda fan who loves the older stuff, but really wants to hear new material as well. With all due respect to Whaley (Who is one of my favorite drummers of all time), I have to admit that Joe Hasselvander is no slacker on the kit as well, and I think he, more than any other drummer the band ever had outside of Paul, "got it" as far as his contribution to drumming for Blue Cheer. Heck, I'm still jived that we actually have Blue Cheer touring the continent. Who'da thunk it woulda ever happened again?!

;D i don't think randy is smart enough to be festoonedlips; eric is but he probably has too much fun just beeing mr. foo ... but, ah, anyway, this should tell randy once and for all he's not wanted around the blue cheer crowd ya gotta wonder why a guy would keep wanting to be what he's not after all these years in the meantime, duck, dickie and paul keep on keeping on whoever said that bit ... duck the brains, dickie the soul and paul the heart ... right on, man

riffraff - Blackmore actually stole the entire band from Duck to kick them all out after the first album. Must have been frustrating! As far as I know Gary Driscoll was close friend to Dave Salce, drummer on BC`s Blitzkrieg over Nuremberg.
