Coven is one of the more interesting bands that came out in the late 60's. They released and album in 1969 called "Witchcraft Destroys Minds & Reaps Souls" One of the songs off this thing is "Black Sabbath" no relation to Black Sabbath's own self titled song. Even weirder they had a bass player named Oz Osbourne, no relation to Ozzy Osbourne. Their lead vocalist is Jinx Dawson. To me it is a dark version of Jefferson Airplane. www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ukxvJAHzaMI

Doubt it. Sounds more like Chris Cornell than Randy Holden.

While we are at it. For some strange reason, i was listening to an old lp I have called Museum by Mary My Hope. It didn't hit me at the time, but listening to it now, their sound kinda combined a Blue Cheer tone with a Leigh Stephens vibe ala Red Weather. For those interested I would recommend listening to "It's About Time". for starters. I think Leigh would have liked this band.

Saw another NJ underground legend at the Stanhope House last night...Billy Hector. Good ol Rock & Roll Boogie Woogie Blues and a good time all around. Anyone unfamiliar should check him out..really cool tunes and great musicianship from the whole band. To tie this in, I noticed that one of Billy's album covers had a insane similarity to the cover of our favorite band's 3rd album and just had to ask him if that covered inspired his own. Billy graciously admitted to it and went on to say that he used to work in a music equipment store (or company) and while in that job, he met many "rock stars" but the only one that ever impressed him was Dickie. He also commented that Vincebus came out while he was in the 7th grade and that there was nothing else like it or BC at the time. ...really cool! Attachments:
